The Fun, Spooky, BUSY Time of Year...

Umm, excuse me. Can you tell me where my October went? It was just - right here.

October has always been source of fun, entertainment and engagement for my family and I, but that's nothing new. I've ALWAYS enjoyed October, a month that has offered up new epic tales of baseball conclusions, television series, movies of all kinds and memories of Halloween festivities that continue until this day.

I've recently re-connected with so many people via a variety of New Media resources (Facebook leading the way, with Twitter and three happy-accidents following in second place) over just the last two weeks, which has offered up something truly special. Those new contacts with old friends (and enemies :) ) have allowed me to have an outstanding revisit to memories long-gone-by that have come out in many of my writings and subsequent podcasts that have really created a series of entertainment I'm proud of.

Click the links to the items below and please let me know if there's something YOU remember that these memories, reviews and podcasts remind you of by leaving commentary here!

The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights - Week 5 Review

There's never been an episode of The Ultimate Fighter on SPIKE that's had such an uphill climb before it ever aired. Last week's Episode 4 of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights was not only a great episode, but one of the best of all time, showcasing the best and (mostly) worst of what can happen in the professional fight game to a fighter dropped into a coaching scenario - that doesn't really want to. We find out more about that, we see one of the question-mark-making fights, and wonder exactly how many coaches were assigned to this season's show. It's all taking place here in week 5 and we encourage you to chime in and tell us what you think about this episode of season 10 of SPIKE's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights! Be sure to listen to our TUF Tally - a quick, no-holds-barred call of this episodes fight via the Savage Style Podcast!

-- The Danger of Cortisone: For those that don't yet understand how cortisone works, you're essentially numbing the area to get past the pain and disconfort associated with an injury to continue "on" - "gutting out the pain", and getting through the current task. What's missing from the overall equation however is that while the pain is subdued, while you can continue to function in relative discomfort, the reason you're feeling "pain" is because your body is registering injury and compensates to deal with it. Swelling is the body's way of immobilizing broken parts to help reduce physical damage and if you can't now feel the pain, you've no reason to stop. That means that the damage your body was trying to tell you about and help you avoid WILL occur with absolute certainty. It's a dangerous little mix of hope, paycheck and desire in the NFL, and it's a gamble MANY players never recover from. Let's hope Matt sees the light or is truly just faking it all.

What are YOU thinking of "FlashForward?"

The 2GuysTalking FlashForward Podcast:
Episode 3 - 137 Sekunden
It's the Third Week of FlashForward on ABC...
14 Min.

"The third week of ABC’s new FlashForward arrives inside the television review halls of Screen Rant.

The world view of what has taken place expands as we begin in a prison in Munich, Germany, where a long-term prisoner named Geyer and a guard begin a discussion that will change many lives and perspectives. What will we find out this time? Will we garner more puzzle pieces that are put in place or only glimpses at the 2 minutes and 17 seconds that had almost all of us spent frozen three weeks ago?

I’ll be reviewing this and future episodes of FlashForward in an ironic and incredibly-appropriate “stream of consciousness” format, giving you essentially what I’m thinking as the show airs. I encourage everyone to send feedback in regard to any of the points below and use this opportunity as a sounding-off point to tell the Screen Rant team what YOU think about this third episode of ABC’s FlashForward!

The secret knowledge of foreign language and subtitles: I know that my viewpoint stems from a bias based on my continual hunt for open and closed captions in the entertainment realm, but I LOVE to have movies that feature partial subtitles. Here we meet an older inmate and a familiar guard who talk about their lives, past current and future and while it’s short, the information is passed along nicely in German which is subtitled for the audience. Great stuff! The reason? For those of you that don’t speak a particular language, the subtitles provided are a glimpse into secret knowledge being conveyed on screen. Rather than thinking of them as a hurdle to one’s movie-watching effort, think of them as a bundle of information you wouldn’t have had otherwise and you’ll see them in a whole new light."
Don't forget to chime in and tell me what YOU think!

Hey SPIKE/UFC - HIre ME as a Coach Next Season!

It's always been said that good things come in threes. I'm here to tell you today that this week, 4s is the best number. In this 4th week of SPIKE's The Ultimate Fighter, we see some of the best samples of Mixed Martial Arts television content EVER. Is it because of the fight showcased? Nope. Is it because we - see MORE KIMBO SLICE? Not at all. This episode is all about showing you perspective and it's great to see in a show where only a year ago, we were being "entertained" by bodily-fluid-drenched sushi.

Glove-up, straddle in and knuckle up as we get to this 4th week of SPIKE's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights here at THE SAVAGE SCIENCE!

As with many of my online reviews, I'll be reviewing this episode in a "stream of consciousness" format, giving you essentially what I'm thinking as the show airs. This is the best and surely most one-of-a-kind opportunity for you to chime in and tell us what you think about this season of Spike's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights and be sure to listen to our TUF Tally - a quick, no-holds-barred call of this episodes fight via the 2GuysTalking: Podcast: Savage Style!

-- Kimbo's Style Really Changed: Umm, not really. While his physique surely has changed from training well, eating mostly good things and two-a-day professional training sessions, he still looks to me like the Kimbo that - fights with his hands, doesn't he? Where is all of this dynamic movement and "ground game" that the people featured in this opening volley are talking about? Seemed to me that Kimbo, threw punches, got mounted, lived through the first round and then - in the second round, got mounted and done. Other than LOSING again, what trend have we started here with a "new" Kimbo Slice?

-- Kimbo did good - he lasted out the round...: Kimbo lasting out the round had nothing to do with Kimbo, and everything to do with Herb Dean. Dean allowed the first round to lapse and then stepped in, appropriately, finally, in the second after Roy mounted the crucifix again and was pounding (albeit lightly) on Kimbo's head who did nothing to move, shake or "defend himself." That folks = a "W" for Roy Nelson, folks. Re-holster bitching and move forward. Nothing to see here.

Ultimate Fighter: HEAVYWEIGHTS Week 3 - Reviewed!

Viewing Date: 9-30-2009
Show Title: Ultimate Fighter: HEAVYWEIGHTS Week 3
Network: SpikeHD
Reviewed By: Mike Wilkerson

Mike Wilkerson collects his thoughts and engages the power of his electrified pencil to give you a breakdown of what is clearly one of the most anticipated Mixed Martial Arts events of this young fall season. Tonight, we'll witness Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson take center cage and show us a much anticipated event. Will it stack up to the hype? Will we finally see the spawning of skill set in the corner of Kimbo Slice? Will the veteran of the IFL put that bell of his squarely on Kimbo's shoulders and win? We'll find out more this week as we launch into our SavageScience.Com Review of Week Three of SPIKE's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights!

As with many of my online reviews, I'll be reviewing this episode in a "stream of consciousness" format, giving you essentially what I'm thinking as the show airs. This is the perfect opportunity for you to chime in and tell us what you think about this season of Spike's The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights and be sure to listen to our TUF Tally - a quick, no-holds-barred call of this episodes fight via the Savage Style Podcast!

-- Strange Vibe and Pace to this Episode: I'm not sure how to collect my thoughts here, but there's something amiss in this episode. Is it that we're just wanting to get to the fight and - CAN'T instantly? Is it just that there's a TON of focus on Kimbo during the entirety of this episode? It's hard to put an electrified pencil on but there is a very strange vibe in process here.

-- "Found Myself Doing One-on-One Connecting with God": Kimbo here provides us with some very rare perspective on his own thoughts about his life, his situation and his "enemy" his "inner me" which "was his enemy." I'm sorry, is there something wrong with having a bad disposition and fighting? While I understand that "hate and ill will" can only feed you so long, how about we have a Kimbo that walks in, opens can of whoop ass, soaks up some needed skill sets like a biscuit, and waits until the next time pain needs to be unleashed? I'm all for people finding their best path, but is anyone watching REALLY interested in what Kimbo Slice is going to offer HIMSELF? I'm not. I'm eager to know more about him, but is the period of short weeks he'll be on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights the proper time to investigate introspection? Not really. How about a whole reality series that focuses on the plight of Kimbo Slice? You could call it "A Slice of Kimbo" - note: Mike Wilkerson will take a meager 5% of the kitty, and autographed hairnet and a photo with he who is Kimbo.
